This series is designed to give young racers an opportunity to develop their racing and skiing skills and progress according with their ability. The U14 Program is the first level of Alpine Ski Racing for 12-13 year olds. This is the start of their journey as a competitive skier.
The focus of U14 remains on the FUNdamentals of training, development, and introduction to competition. In this level athletes progress from the skiers essentials stage of AIM through the learning to train stage and eventually into the learning to race stage. Learning experiences are enhanced with extensive use of free skiing and specifically designed training environments. The more formalized racing and team travel also enhance the learning of critical life skills such as time management, working as a member of a team, proper nutrition, being responsible for yourself.
Dry land/physical training begins the first week of September. On snow training begins in November (depending on snow conditions). Training is available on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays as well as over Christmas and spring break. U14 athletes are encouraged to participate in mountain training camps. This series culminates with a Provincial championship. Every second year this group has the option of competing at the Alberta Winter Games (should they qualify).
